Just when you thought they'd milked every primal scream from the crazy Long Island colonial, here's the first extended trailer for Dimension's new Amityville: The Awakening scarefest starring Bella Thorne, McKenna Grace, Cameron Monaghan and Jennifer Jason Leigh.

In this 12th installment in the long-running horror franchise, a single mom moves her family into the legendary home to be near a neurological hospital that her ailing son desperately needs, only to battle occult forces residing within its wicked walls.

Despite the unfortunate stigma of potentially being yet another limp Amityville sequel with overcooked FX and cliched spooks, this freaky trailer has some seriously jarring jolts in its cinematic arsenal.   Directed by Franck Khalfoun (Maniac), this return to the dreaded DeFeo hellhouse seems like it respects the horror genre with all the thrillride reverence it often deserves, with insane images of sticky comatose corpses, devil dolls, snarling demons and the obligatory swarm of evil insects spewing from Kurtwood Smith's mouth.

Check it out.  This one may deserve our bucks and our blessing ...

Amityville: The Awakening invades theaters on Jan. 2, 2015.

Will you be stepping through that spectral door?
