A new video from the set of director Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman has made its way online, showing us a bird's-eye view of the daily life of the inhabitants of the Island of Themyscira, aka Paradise Island.
The comic-book movie is currently filming in Matera, Italy, which is standing in for the idyllic home of Princess Diana (Gal Gadot) and the Amazons. It's one of the many locations used to re-create Paradise Island.
Before leaving the island to fight crime, supervillains and evil gods in Man’s World, this is where Diana grew up, surrounded by her mother Queen Hippolyta (Connie Nielsen) and her aunt, General Antiope (Robin Wright), who raised the warrior princess in the ways of the brave and mighty Amazons.
Have a look at the DC Extended Universe version of Themyscira, and it looks like it's market day!
The look of the island for the Warner Bros. movie is much more "gritty and realistic" (I can't believe I'm saying that) than the pristine, classical world depicted in the DC Comics, and the set looks more at home in something like Game of Thrones. I keep waiting for Daenerys to pop up. That said, we can see some green screens in the video, so I wonder how Themyscira will actually look like when the movie is finished.
What do you think? Do you like the DCEU's version of the Island of Themyscira, or do you prefer the comic-book version of Paradise Island?
Also starring Chris Pine as Steve Trevor, Wonder Woman will open in movie theaters on June 2, 2017.
