Take a former Texas cheerleader, pair her with a Hunger Games victor, and you have the perfect casting for the crime-fighting duo Dove and Hawk in the new Titans series.

According to DeadlineFriday Night Lights alum Minka Kelly is set to play the role of Dove opposite Alan Ritchson’s Hawk in the live-action series slated to debut in 2018 as part of a forthcoming DC-branded digital service line-up. Partners in crime and romance, the dynamic duo are polar opposites in the comic book incarnation.

On film, Ritchson portrayed the men's District 1 tribute, Gloss, in 2013's The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, but it's not his first time stepping a heroic foot in the DC Universe. He previously donned a different spandex uniform when he briefly portrayed ruler of Atlantis and friend to ocean life, Aquaman, aka Arthur Curry, on the Smallville TV series.

And beyond the glare of the Texas football sidelines and her role as Lyla Garrity, Kelly laid down the law as Detective Valerie Stahl, a genetically-enhanced intelligence analyst with a bottle of bourbon in her desk drawer, on Almost Human.

The crime-fighting pedigrees of the two stars make them the perfect match for Titans, where they'll join a league of young heroes more often spotted in the shadows of some of the world's most famed caped crusaders. The Titans have historically tackled typical teen angst while simultaneously fending off super villains (though the team from the TV series will be decidedly older).

Helmed by Oscar-winner Akiva Goldsman, and DC Entertainment’s Geoff Johns and Greg Berlanti, Titans will follow its comic book origins to bring together Robin/Dick Grayson (Brenton Thwaites) leading a pack of fearless new heroes, like Starfire (Anna Diop), Raven (Teagan Croft), and other protégés from all corners of the DC Universe.

The lithe and magical Dove/Dawn Granger, and super-strong bruiser Hawk/Hank Hall will have recurring roles in the first season, with an option to become regular cast members in Season 2, and possibly leading to a spinoff of their own if the series takes off.
