The Game of Thrones theme is a tune that just lends itself to cover versions, and we've heard quite a few at this point. Some are cool, some are funny, and some are just plain weird. And then there's this version, an epic mix of voice and violin that definitely ranks among the best.

This rendition was created by the combined powers of vocalist Peter Hollens and violinist Lindsey Stirling, and is made twice as cool by the awesome music video that goes along with it. The track was performed entirely by the pair, with Hollens providing numerous vocal layers and Stirling taking care of what sounds like dozens of violin variations (and a little stomping to add some percussion). When it was all mixed together, the song included 140 tracks of voice and violin.

To make the video, the pair got a film crew together, donned some costumes for the occasion and headed out into the Oregon outdoors. The result is a beautiful, fantasy-inspired collection of waterfalls, sand dunes and forests that feels like it could have come right out of the Thrones special features.

Cool, right? And if you really dig the cover, you can get it on iTunes.
