While we wait for that Hellboy trailer they played at New York Comic Con to be released publicly (UPDATE: It's up now!), the folks over at Lionsgate have unveiled a first look at members of the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense (or BPRD) on the set of the new Neil Marshall-directed film.

The photos feature David Harbour as the eponymous antihero, along with cohorts Alice Monaghan and Major Ben Daimio (played by Sasha Lane and Daniel Dae Kim, respectively).

Harbour, who has assumed the role of Hellboy previously played by Ron Perlman, told Entertainment Weekly that although this new film won’t be an origin story, it will be about the character “coming to terms with where he came from.”

“He’s been Hellboy for a long time, but there’s a new turn of events at the start of the film, where people start to bring up the fact that he might bring about the end of the world, and it’s really the first time he’s heard anything like that,” he added. “The question that comes up in the movie is where does he really belong?”

And apparently Kim's character Daimio doesn't go out of his way to calm Hellboy's dark thoughts.

“He’s definitely got a point of view about Hellboy,” Kim told the media outlet. “Just because they all exist in this universe doesn’t make them all friends. There are suspicions and rivalries.”

Based on the comic by Mike Mignola, Hellboy has been adapted into two live-action feature films, in 2004 and 2008, starring Perlman and directed by Guillermo del Toro. Mignola has said that this upcoming adaptation stays a little closer to the source material than del Toro’s films.

Hellboy breaks loose in theaters on April 12. Until then, check out the trailer, which has (finally) been released!
