Hellboy star Ron Perlman really, really wants to play Cable

With Cable set to make his cinematic debut in the upcoming Deadpool sequel starring Ryan Reynolds as the Merc With a Mouth, a few actors have already expressed interest in playing the time-traveling mutant -- including badass actor Stephen Lang (Avatar, Terra Nova, Salem).

But now there’s another equally badass actor who’s throwing his hat into the ring for the role of Nathan Summers.

Hellboy actor Ron Perlman has taken to social media in order to show his interest in playing yet another comic book superhero (you know, since nothing is happening with Hellboy III). Taking to his Facebook page, Perlman wrote, “I'm the only one with Cable's friggin HAIR!”

Nathan Summers, aka Cable, is the son of original X-Man Scott Summers (Cyclops) and Madelyne Pryor, a clone of Jean Grey. Born in the modern timeline but sent to live in the future, the character possesses telepathic and telekinetic powers but has to constantly control a techno-organic infection on his left arm. Nathan’s birth came about because Mr. Sinister, an X-Men villain, had been manipulating the Summers and Grey lineages for generations in order to breed a mutant that was powerful enough to defeat Apocalypse. That mutant? Cable.

First created as a newborn baby by Chris Claremont for Uncanny X-Men #201 back in 1986, Cable appeared in his adult form in the pages of The New Mutants #87 four years later, the brainchild of writer Louise Simonson and artist/co-writer Rob Liefeld. Back in January, Liefeld revealed that his top choice for the role was Mad Men actor Jon Hamm.

What say you? Is Ron Perlman a no-brainer for the role of Cable?
