Every month, Netflix makes changes to its ever-popular Watch Instantly streaming service. Some movies and shows leave, but that also means that some movies and shows arrive, and as luck would have it, October is pretty good month for new genre arrivals. We've got lots of seasons of TV to catch up on, some horror movies to get us in the Halloween spirit and the return of Hemlock Grove for its final Netflix chapter.
Check out the new October offerings below.
A Christmas Carol (1938)
There are, of course, seemingly endless adaptations of Charles Dickens' classic holiday ghost story, but this one, starring the great Reginald Owen, is one of the very best.
Batman Begins (2005)
It's very unlikely that you haven't yet seen this celebrated revival of the Batman film franchise, but it's also very unlikely that you don't want to experience Christian Bale's first time out as the Dark Knight again.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005)
Is Johnny Depp's take on Willy Wonka as weird as you remember? It might be time to find out.
Curse of Chucky (2013)
Yes, though you may not have noticed it, writer/director Don Mancini is still working on his Chucky franchise. This is the sixth film in the saga, and aims to be more about horror and less about horror-comedy, so why not go take a look and see if these movies are still fun?
Dark Was the Night (2015)
Halloween season is officially upon us, which means it's probably time for you to consume any new horror film you can find on Netflix. This one, about an ancient curse haunting a town, and the people who try to uncover its secrets, sounds promising.
Tremors 5: Bloodline, Available October 6
Yes, they're still making Tremors movies, and this one's hitting Netflix on the same day as its direct-to-video release. Remember the gun-crazy Burt Gummer (played by Michael Gross)? Well, he's back to fight more monsters, and he might just be in over his head.
The New Mr. Peabody and Sherman Show: Season 1(2015), Available October 9
DreamWorks continues its run of original Netflix programming with this series, in which the titular time travelers host a variety show in their home, with various historical figures as guests.
The Lazarus Effect (2015), Available October 14
This horror thriller about the terrifying consequences of bringing back the dead didn't get the best reception upon its release, but come on, it's October. You know you want to try out every scary movie you can find.
LEGO DC Comics: Batman Be-Leaguered (2014), Available October 20
Because we just can't get enough Batman in any form, here's a new LEGO special in which the Caped Crusader must solve the mystery of the disappearing Justice League members.
Hemlock Grove Season 3 (2015), Available October 23
Just in time for Halloween binge watching, Netflix's original horror series is back for its third, and final, year. So, see how it all ends, then rewatch the whole show again.
Because it's fall, new seasons of TV are premiering, which also means that the previous seasons are getting video releases, which also means that many of those same seasons are hitting Netflix for your binge catch-up pleasure. This month brings quite a crop, so I thought I'd rope them all into one section for your convenience. The Vampire Diaries Season 6 arrives on Oct. 2, followed by American Horror Story, Freak Show, iZombie Season 1, The Flash Season 1, and The Originals Season 2, all on Oct. 6. Then both Arrow Season 3 and Supernatural Season 10 arrive on Oct. 7, followed by Avengers Assemble Season 2 on Oct. 20. Plan your schedules accordingly.
