Here's the animated Doctor Who we wish was real

For better or worse, Peter Capaldi's Doctor is gonna be a much crueler incarnation than the ones we've seen since Who returned in 2005. Remember when I said I hoped Capaldi and Coleman would take a page from the Colin Baker/Nicola Bryant playbook? Well, if that first episode (which premiered in Cardiff yesterday) is any indication, that's precisely what we're getting.

But forget that for a minute. Animator Stephen Byrne has an entirely different vision for Capaldi's Doctor, and it's pretty great.

It's got a bit of the Scooby-Doo to it, right? It really is a shame this isn't more than just an opening credits sequence. We'd love to see an adorable Doctor Who cartoon. After, all, if Beetlejuice could spawn a sweet, child-friendly cartoon, why not Doctor Who
