Here's the closest thing we have to a Star Trek replicator, yet

Anyone ever wished you had one of those Star Trek replicators at home? Now you can get the closest thing to it so far, thanks to a new device called the Genie.

According to its creator, the Genie was inspired by the replicators we’ve seen on Star Trek. Replicators reconstituted matter out of pure energy, but the Genie basically turns pods of dehydrated powders into meals on demand. The Genie is operated by a companion app and serves freshly cooked meals made only with all-natural ingredients, mixed with freeze-dried fruits and veggies. It has no added preservatives, and once you’re ready to go, all you need is to add a bit of water to the Genie, press a button, wait less than a minute, and voila! The app can also be used to personalize your diet, which is nice for all those who are on gluten-free diets, dairy-free diets, egg-free diets, etc., etc.

Genie co-developer Doron Marco said the Star Trek replicators were, indeed, part of the inspiration, and that the Genie could one day be even smarter. "Eventually, Genie will know your micro-biome and will prepare the pod for you, just for you." (To learn more about it, you can watch the Youtube video.) The Genie’s target population is the western countries, but their goal is laudable as well; they hope to help countries that don’t have enough food. Marco said:

"In our world, we are getting fat and we are throwing away a lot of food, in their world, they don't have any food. So if you use Genie, you can distribute the food better, you can have the shelf life much longer without the preservatives, give the people better food for them. We can even the food distribution in the world. That's a very, very important goal for us."

See? the future is already here. No need to wait until the 24th century or live on a starship or a space station. So, “Tea, Earl Grey, hot.” Thanks very much.
