After decades of waiting, the long-fabled Ghostbusters 3 is finally starting to come together — just not exactly as we’d expected.
First came the heartbreaking passing of Ghostbusters actor and writer Harold Ramis, then the exit of original director Ivan Reitman (though he still plans to produce) just as part three is starting to ramp up. But like it or not, the studio is still moving full steam ahead.
Deadline founder turned rogue media maven Nikki Finke is reporting that super-hot directing duo Phil Lord and Chris Miller (The Lego Movie, 21 Jump Street) are in talks to take over Ghostbusters 3. Lord and Miller are a buzzy team these days, and they’ve proven they have some solid comedy chops. Plus, Reitman can take solace from the fact that it takes two people to replace his awesomeness.
A current draft of the script, written by Etan Cohen, is ready to rollI, and if Lord and Miller do sign on, casting could probably ramp up later this year. Despite the fact that we’re psyched we could have some new ghostbusting adventures soon, we’re saddened that when it finally does happen, it’ll be missing (at least) two of the folks who made the franchise such a treasure.
What do you think? Are Lord and Miller a good choice, or should the studio just hang it up and leave well enough alone?
