Disney has wasted no time shaking up the status quo in the Star Wars universe (see: the latest issue of Marvel’s Star Wars comic), and now that new continuity is making its way to the mobile gaming space.
The company has officially announced the new mobile game Star Wars: Uprising, which will be set in the era between Return of the Jedi and the upcoming The Force Awakens. The game will be centered around “key events” in the Anoat Sector, inclusive of Hoth and Cloud City, and will allow players to create characters, go on missions and organize crews and factions to participate in wide-ranging battles. Users will have the option of playing as a smuggler, a bounty hunter, a rebel guerrilla, a diplomat, a gambler, etc.
The game is being developed by Kabam (Marvel Contest of Champions, Fast and Furious: Legacy), in collaboration with Disney and Lucasfilm. As you’ve likely guessed, the game will be set in Disney’s official, new continuity that aims to encompass everything from comic books to novels to TV shows, movies and videogames.
Disney said they would be rolling out new Star Wars material in just about every medium, and it seems like they meant it. Between the Rebels TV show, Marvel's new comics and games like this, it's fascinating to think about just how much new Star Wars stuff we'll have before The Force Awakens even opens in December.
Star Wars: Uprising is set to be released soon, and beta testing should ramp up in the coming weeks. Do you plan on checking this one out?
