Unless you’ve been stuck somewhere inside a giant space slug in the Hoth asteroid field, then you know there’s a young Han Solo-featuring Star Wars spinoff movie in the works. Written by Lawrence Kasdan and his son Jon, the movie will be helmed by LEGO Movie directors Chris Miller and Phil Lord and will touch base with the beloved character we got to meet in A New Hope.

But what does the original Han Solo himself, actor Harrison Ford, think about the idea of having someone else play one of sci-fi's most iconic characters?

In an extensive interview with Entertainment Weekly, Ford spoke about playing Han Solo and whether his character had softened a bit in director J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Ford said no, and that we could expect to see the same wise-cracking space smuggler fans have come to know and love:

“No, there’s not an abandoning of the character. He does not aspire to the position of Obi-‘Ben’ Kenobi, nor do I aspire to be some New Age Alec Guinness. His development is consistent with the character, and there are emotional elements which have occasioned his growth. We spend a lot more time [in the movie] on his failure to master basic skills, like accounting. And accounting for his own behavior. There’s a lot of the rogue still left in Solo. Some things don’t change.”

And when asked if Lucasfilm had talked to him about the untitled Han Solo movie set to blast into theaters on May 25, 2018, Ford replied:

“I think they’re probably talking to the young Han Solo.”

As for giving advice to his successor (or is it to his predecessor?), Ford -- who says he’s never really thought about how he felt knowing someone else was going to pilot the Millennium Falcon -- had these wise words of wisdom to impart:

“I would say, ‘Talk to your director. Watch the movies. And welcome aboard. Make it your own.’”

What do you think of Harrison Ford's advice to the guy who'll play a young Han Solo? Who would you like to see in the role?  Chris Pratt?

Star Wars: The Force Awakens will open in theaters on Dec. 18.
