If there's one question we'd like to ask George R.R. Martin, it's "Y u no write faster?" If there's a SECOND question we'd like to ask George R.R. Martin, it's how he hopes to finish his epic A Song of Ice and Fire series in only two books given that the last installment, A Dance With Dragons, seemed to leave a LOT of story threads pretty far from being wrapped up. But, hey, at least winter finally started coming.

Anyhoo, one fan did have a chance to ask the author that question during an online Q&A conducted by Empire Online. And while the answer was optimistic, Martin also had an out in case of emergency. He says:

"Two BIG books. 1500 manuscript pages each - that's 3000 pages. I think I have a good shot. And you know, if I really get pressed, I've already established that red comet. I can just have it hit Westeros and wipe out all life."

So, there you have it: Two books to finish, or apocalypse. The whole Q&A is actually worth a read, delving into Martin's thoughts on what the HBO show leaves out, his book recommendations for fantasy lovers, and what's with all the hand injuries in Westeros.

Check it out over at Empire Online.
