For better or worse, WB's Suicide Squad was filled with surprises. Prior to its release, rumors suggested viewers would get at least two cameo appearances. But only one of them would shock both the audience and the film's actors.

Spoilers for Suicide Squad

In the first act of Suicide Squad, each member of the team is rounded up by various heroes. From the trailers, we already knew Batman (Ben Affleck) would have a hand in Harley Quinn's capture. But it was his Justice League teammate The Flash (Ezra Miller) who snagged Captain Boomerang. This was a reveal that caught Boomerang's portrayer, Jai Courtney, completely off guard.

Speaking with Business Insider, Courtney explained,  "I didn't f------ know that was happening when we were filming. That was a surprise for me when I saw the film." It might sound ridiculous, but the Boomerang/Flash scene was a complete cut-and-paste job.

Miller wasn't actually in the scene with Courtney. So the latter assumed Boomerang "had been taken out by [Rick] Flag's crew." Apparently, it's not specified in the script. But writer and director David Ayer told Collider, The Flash was always going to be in the film. He revealed, "We just got lucky because Justice League was happening and they had the uniform, they had the assets, so we were able to get that photography.”

Miller never set foot on the Suicide Squad set. His portion was shot after principal photography had already wrapped. Justice League's Zack Snyder directed his scene (in London) and sent the footage over to Ayer. That's how the magic happened. The Suicide Squad has its fair share of problems, but I consider The Flash a definite highlight.

What did you think of The Flash's cameo?
