Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is bringing a Marvel Comics character into the fold when the series returns in March, and we have our first look at Natalia Cordova-Buckley (McFarland, USA) as Elena Rodriguez, aka Slingshot.

The show will finally return after a three-month hiatus the week after Agent Carter ends its Season 2 run on March 1 (by the way, can we start a prayer circle that this won’t be the series finale? #SaveAgentCarter).

To give you a bit of background into Slingshot, in the Marvel comics, the character goes by Yo-Yo Rodriguez. She’s the daughter of a super-criminal code-named the Griffin, and through her father's mutated DNA, she gains superhuman speed and the ability to snap back to the exact same spot she started running (hence the cool code name Slingshot). Recruited into Nick Fury’s Secret Warriors by Daisy Johnson (Chloe Bennet), aka Quake, she had her arms cut off by a deadly Hydra agent called The Gorgon. She returned to active duty when they were replaced by two prosthetic arms.

For the Marvel series, the character is described as a “street-wise Colombian woman given Inhuman abilities and is based on the character Slingshot from the Secret Warriors comic series.” Have a look:

Here’s a synopsis for the midseason premiere:

When Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns, Coulson is more determined than ever to get to Gideon Malick and put an end to Hydra once and for all in the aftermath of his trip to Maveth. Meanwhile, Daisy and the team encounter more Inhumans who have powers like they’ve never seen before, but will they be friends or enemies of S.H.I.E.L.D.?

If Slingshot does indeed become a member of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s fledgling Secret Warriors on the ABC series, she'll join fellow Inhumans Lincoln Campbell (Luke Mitchell) and Joey Gutierrez (Juan Pablo Raba).

Catch up with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. when the show returns on March 8.
