We've already heard Disney will be rolling out several books and other projects to fill in some of the gaps between the original Star Wars trilogy and The Force Awakens. Here’s our first look at the first legit prequel.

The new Star Wars comics have been setting up some extremely fun stories, but now Disney (via Marvel) is getting ready to drop the first piece of its Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens prequel material. Dubbed Shattered Empire, this brand-new comic aims to explore the period between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. More than anything else, this book promises to provide some extremely important intel that will affect all the Star Wars movies currently in the works.

Judging by the cover art revealed below (by artist Phil Noto), it seems the series will star the main heroes Luke, Han and Leia. It also seems to be set in the wake of Return of the Jedi, meaning we’ll (hopefully) pick up in the immediate aftermath of the second Death Star’s destruction. Despite that victory, it seems there are still pockets of Imperial forces out there needing to be dealt with.

The first issue of Star Wars: The Force Awakens -- Shattered Empire will be released September 2015. What do you think happened in all those missing years?
