Here's what Quentin Tarantino has to say about possibly directing a Star Trek movie

Now that J.J. Abrams is set to direct Star Wars Episode IX, people are of a mind that the Star Trek franchise — which was successfully rebooted on the big screen by Abrams in 2009 — could be down a potential director. Then again, details are scant on whether a sequel to Star Trek Beyond is going to happen, and when, but one thing's for sure: It'll need a director.

At least, that what we're guessing this TMZ reporter was thinking when they ambushed caught Tarantino at the airport and asked him about whether he'd be interested in the job — on the eve of the arrival of Star Trek's latest small-screen outing, Discovery, on CBS.

While the director didn't say much, he did respond that “it would be worth having a meeting about,” before walking away.

The question's not as out of the blue as you may think. Tarantino discussed the possibility of directing a Star Trek film with the Nerdist podcast in 2015, waxing enthusiastic about classic Star Trek episodes and showcasing his know-how of specific storylines filmmakers can readily mine for big-screen narratives.

Tarantino says he's planning to direct two more films before he retires. It may not be in the cards, but a Star Trek movie would be a completely different type of film for him — and one he could certainly put his singular stamp on.

What would a Tarantino Trek film even look like? You can bet fans will quickly line up to find out.
