The Big Bad for the next X-Men adventure has been cast.

Ever since it was announced that Fox, director Bryan Singer and writer Simon Kinberg would follow up X-Men: Days of Future Past with X-Men: Apocalypse, we've been wondering who would eventually play Apocalypse himself. The immortal, basically impossible-to-kill supervillain will be one of the biggest villains the X-Men have faced onscreen yet, if not the biggest, so an actor with real presence is needed, and now Singer seems to have found him.

Variety reports that Academy Award nominee Oscar Isaac is set to play Apocalypse in the film, joining a cast that already includes Michael Fassbender as Magneto, James McAvoy as Professor Xavier and Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique. According to the report, Singer's been meeting with several actors for the role in recent weeks, but always considered Isaac a favorite for the job.

After roles in films like Sucker Punch and Robin Hood, Isaac broke out in a big way last year with his performance in Inside Llewyn Davis, which earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Actor, as well as numerous other awards and honors from critics. His performance in the upcoming A Most Violent Year is already drawing critical praise and could earn him even more honors as awards season heats up, and if you've been hearing his name a lot around here lately, it's because he's also one of the leads in the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

So Bryan Singer has landed his villain and Oscar Isaac has added another major genre franchise to his resume. What do you think? Is he the right choice?

X-Men: Apocalypse will hit theaters on May 27, 2016.
