Here's why 'Robot of Sherwood' will have a last-minute edit before it even airs

This week's upcoming episode of Doctor Who has been changed. Here's what happened to cause the alteration.

Sometimes producers make a judgment call about their TV shows at the last minute because of real-world events. For example, a Buffy the Vampire Slayer episode, "Earshot," was rescheduled to air much later than it was originl planned to because it featured a school shooting right after the events at Columbine.

Doctor Who's latest episode, Robot of Sherwood, is in a similar boat. In the original edit, there was to be a decapitation in the climactic scene, but due to recent events in Iraq and Syria, a last-minute cut of that sequence has been made. A BBC spokesperson commented on the change saying, “In light of recent news events, we have made an edit to episode three out of respect.”

Considering that there were two recent actual beheadings by Islamic extremists, this seems like the right move. Hopefully the plot of the episode won't be impeded.
