With the debut of Solo approaching quicker than the Millennium Falcon did the Kessel Run, fans of Han Solo and Star Wars in general are waiting with bated breath for their favorites to return to the big screen. But for those that know never to ignore a Wookiee will be pleased to see that their favorite bandolier-draped co-pilot is getting lots of love out there this weekend.
Chewbacca’s been out and about this weekend, whether it was Joonas Suotamo (who plays the character in Solo) or cosplayers. The 6’10” Suotamo got to meet some of his cinematic heroes:
...with one slight problem.
Well, at least Sean Astin, Elijah Wood, and Billy Boyd (actors that portrayed all but one of the main Hobbits from Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings) seemed to have a good time meeting their BIGGEST fan anyways.
Chewie’s height was a problem during another recent outing, though this time for other people:
The Cavaliers played the Celtics and Chewie played everyone seated behind his furry frame. Is this a promo stunt by the Solo marketing team? Or simply a reminder that organized sports on Kashyyyk are few and far between? Either way, looks like he had a blast:
And to cap it all off, it doesn’t hurt that it was recently the birthday of Peter Mayhew, the man that made that big fuzzball the Chewie we know and love:
Whether new, original, or a sporty variation, Chewbacca was the Wookiee to watch this weekend - preparing audiences for his on-screen return in less than a week.
