Some new shots from Timur Bekmambatov's upcoming alt-history romp Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter have been released courtesy of Entertainment Weekly, showing a young Honest Abe wielding a fairly large ax.

Apart from an early promo poster, not a ton of shots have been released from the action horror flick, so these photos give the first real glimpse at the style of the film.

The shots show Lincoln, played by Benjamin Walker, charging into a room in mid-ax-swing on his way to what we can only assume is a waiting vampire head. Another pic shows a younger Lincoln, top hat and all, with ax in hand.

Walker, who stars as pre-neck-beard and post-neck-beard Lincoln, said the film will be told through major events in Lincoln's life. But the former president's secret battle with the undead will also be mixed in with the biography.

"It's told through the structure of Lincoln's actual life," he told Entertainment Weekly. "You not only see these huge fight scenes and great moments of drama, but you get sort of the greatest hits of Lincoln's life, from the mysterious death of his mother through the Gettysburg Address. You get a portrait of this man, as well as a thriller."

Walker added that the movie will take an old-school approach to vampires. No sparkling, no gray areas and no do-gooder vamps.

"It's not a sermon in any way, but it is interesting to look at vampires as the all-encompassing, unspeakable, unknowable evil," Walker told Entertainment Weekly. "This evil moves among us, and maybe lives next door. It's an ideology that we don't fully understand, but they live by it."

The film is based on the novel of the same name, written by mashup master Seth Grahame-Smith.
