The Originals is ending next season, but that doesn't mean The CW is getting out of The Vampire Diaries universe. At their TCA panel today, president Mark Pedowitz revealed that the network is in early talks with The Originals creator Julie Plec about spinning off the spinoff show.

The CW started in this universe in 2009 with The Vampire Diaries. The hit show then got a spinoff in 2013, The Originals, which follows siblings/the world's first vampires as they return home to New Orleans, a city deeply divided amongst vampires, witches, and werewolves. The show added another layer when Klaus, a vampire/werewolf hybrid, inexplicably impregnated Hayley, a werewolf.

The child she birthed, Hope, is part vampire, part werewolf, and somehow, part witch. In the last few seasons of The Originals, it has been revealed that Hope has an enormous power that has yet to be fully explored. So it is unsurprising that a potential spinoff would be focused around her.

"There’s been many discussions about the character Hope,” said Pedowitz with regards to his talks with Plec. “I’m very interested if she wishes to do it in the The Vampire Diaries universe. Nothing has come out of it yet. Julie really wants to get the final season of The Originals done."

In the trailer below, which was shown at Comic-Con last month, it almost feels like it is a trailer for a Hope spinoff. The majority of the trailer involves Hope, in voiceover, telling the history of her family (complete with recycled footage from the series), and ends with a slightly older Hope at the Salvatore School (basically like Xavier's School for the Gifted, but for supernatural kids) keeping up her father's tradition of painting.

The Originals will begin its final season in 2018 with Danielle Rose Russell taking over the part of Hope. After that, Julie, let's have a serious discussion about what's next for the character.
