The Changeling, a new novel by Victor LaValle, has been picked up for development by Annapurna Television.

Released in June, LaValle's novel is described as a mix of horror, fantasy, and realism. Young couple Apollo and Emma have a baby, which is a blessing to Apollo, who has been haunted by the disappearance of his father when he was a child. Determined to do right by his son, things take a turn when Emma becomes abusive and disappears, and the baby is murdered. Apollo sets out on a quest that "takes him to a forgotten island, a graveyard full of secrets, a forest where immigrant legends still live, and finally back to a place he thought he had lost forever."

LaValle's other books include The Devil in Silver, The Ecstatic, and Big Machine. He is currently developing his novella The Ballad of Black Tom, as a series for AMC.

Sue Nagle and Ali Krug will be developing The Changeling. As it is still in the development stages, there are no actors, directors, or writers yet attached.
