With slick visuals and some epic battle scenes, the first trailer for Warcraft had fans salivating over director Duncan Jones’ adaptation of the hit video game. So how is Jones actually translating the franchise from PC to the big screen?

IGN has put together a nifty interview feature with Jones, stars Clancy Brown and Dominic Cooper, and the film’s producers to tackle all the challenges this monumental production has included. Jones digs into the creative process of distilling a story from decades of video game history, and how they landed on the balance between the Alliance and the Horde. If nothing else, it at least looks like an interesting approach.

Not surprisingly, a part of the chat also focuses on the massive special effects involved with a production like this. As the trailer makes clear, this movie will feature a boatload of CGI and effects work. They’ve had to create pretty much everything, and it’s a bona fide FX-plosion of monsters and swords.
