Despite the fact that the BBC powers-that-be wanted a certain Doctor Who classic villain to take a well-deserved break for the upcoming season eight, looks like Peter Capaldi will get to fight them.
Get ready to be exterminated, because after appearing in the 50th-anniversary special, “The Day of the Doctor,” as well as in the Xmas special episode “The Time of the Doctor,” it looks like those beloved space pepperpots, the Daleks, will definitely put in a return appearance in the upcoming eight season of the popular sci-fi series, which is currently filming -- per new Doctor Peter Capaldi’s wish.
The Star reports:
Peter Capaldi will fulfill a lifelong dream of fighting the Daleks in his first series as the new Doctor. BBC bosses originally wanted the 2014 series of the Time Lord’s adventures to be “exterminator-free’’. The Daleks featured in both last November’s 50th anniversary episode The Day Of The Doctor and also the Christmas special The Time Of The Doctor. So TV chiefs reckoned they should disappear for a while to allow the new Doc to tackle a new batch of monsters. But Capaldi, 55, who admits he is massive fan of the show, told producers it had been his childhood dream to fight the iconic pepperpot villains – and he has got his wish.
At the tender age of 15, Capaldi (now currently starring as Cardinal Richelieu in The Musketeers) bombarded the Radio Times with letters in which he expressed his love of the Daleks. In one of them, he wrote:
“May I congratulate you on the Terry Nation Dalek story with the twist in the tail.
“The Dalek construction plans will have no doubt inspired many a school to build their own Daleks.
“Who knows, the country could be invaded by an army of school Daleks! Ah, but we’d have Dr Who to protect us!”
There are no details as to when the Daleks will appear, but Doctor Who TV suggests that it could be as early as episode two, to which writer Phil Ford previously gave this cryptic clue: “behind enemy lines.”
What do you guys think? Are you excited that Peter Capaldi’s Doctor will fight the Daleks in the upcoming eighth season, or would you have rather wished to have the upcoming season to be “Dalek Free”?
