Having watched Marvel’s The Defenders over the weekend on Netflix, I was rather pleased with how the story actually turned out. It wasn’t perfect, but it was pretty entertaining and saw our four main heroes get some personal growth over the course of eight episodes as they met and faced off against The Hand. One of them was Danny Rand, aka Iron Fist.
In a very cool and lenghty interview with Inverse, former Game of Thrones actor Finn Jones explained how The Defenders will influence the second season of Iron Fist, which recently got a new showrunner, Raven Metzner, following Scott Buck’s departure to spearhead Marvel’s Inhumans series on ABC.
Here’s what Finn Jones had to say:
“I think throughout Iron Fist [season 1], Danny doesn’t even know what a superhero is. So, in Defenders, this is the first time he is meeting other people with abilities, and they all have their problems. They’re able to go about their lives and use their abilities responsibly and with purpose ... At the end of the day, they’re there to help mentor him and help him grow into a responsible adult that he knows he can be ... So, what we’re seeing in The Defenders is these three people who he’s come into contact with are really helping put him on the straight and narrow.”
While it’s a known fact the actor didn’t have much time to train before going into Iron Fist, then straight into The Defenders, Jones will now have some proper training time before filming season 2. Aka, we’ll get better fight scenes:
“Moving into Season 2 of Iron Fist, I’m actually starting my training next week. We’re at least four or five months away from shooting, so this time around, I’m being given a lot more preparation leading up to season 2, which I think is really gonna have a huge improvement on the quality of the fight scenes in season 2 of Iron Fist.”
While we wait for a season 2 premiere date, we do know that the new season will feature the Daughters of the Dragon. That, coupled with more character growth from Danny (who may or may not finally don his Iron Fist duds) will surely make this a must-see season. What say you?
