It’s exactly one month until the aliens return to try and finish us off, and the studio has dropped a lengthy new trailer for Independence Day: Resurgence

Clocking in at over 4 minutes, the trailer does a whole lot of heavy lifting to reestablish this world and show how things have changed in the 20 years since the first film became a summer holiday tradition. The more we see of this film, the more obvious is becomes that Resurgence is a whole lot more of a straight-up sci-fi action flick. Which makes sense, but it’s definitely setting up for a different type of movie.

The first film was set in the “real” world, with existing technology and MacBooks used to repel the alien armada. But now, humanity has spent 20 years incorporating alien tech, so we have our own space ships and laser guns this time around. It looks great, no doubt, but you have to wonder if it’ll cost some of that lo-fi charm that made the original film so endearing. If nothing else, Jeff Goldblum better have a MacBook joke.

Independence Day: Resurgence opens June 23.
