The third season of Humans has certainly upped the stakes after the deaths of humans and synths alike thanks to a consciousness code distribution.
Meanwhile, the sentient faction of the anthropomorphic robots known as "synths," distinguished by their glowing green eyes, are fighting a losing battle to obtain any form of basic civil rights. When this season began, the synths were already in bad shape, and Mia (Gemma Chan, who'll next be seen in the upcoming Captain Marvel) was becoming increasingly desperate to find a real solution to keep her kind from dying.
In this exclusive clip from this week's episode, Mia delivers a package and is greeted as "the famous Mia" by the kindly old lady who answers the door. After she insists Mia come inside for all her trouble, she begins pulling the drapes closed in her apartment, telling her that she "hasn't met him yet."
"Dorian, it's safe now," she calls out.
As Dorian (Dominic Coleman) enters the room, Mia sees he's a fellow sentient synth, and a possible ally in her upcoming showdown with humanity. Dorian was in this season's devastating fifth episode, in which fellow synth Karen (Ruth Bradley) sacrificed herself to a mob of angry humans.
"Mia, it's a pleasure to meet you at last," he says, beaming with an excitement that's matched only by his glowing green eyes.
Given Mia's response to Dorian's introduction, there seems to be an inkling of hope that she might not be fighting such a losing battle after all.
The new episode of Humans airs tonight on AMC at 11 p.m. ET, as the series careens toward a two-part finale on July 17.
