Amazon Studios’ alternate history series The Man in the High Castle is returning for a hotly anticipated second season on Dec. 16, and the powers-that-be have decided to lift the veil on one of the show’s biggest mysteries: the identity of the titular character.

So, who is playing the mysterious film collector, aka the Man in the High Castle? Veteran actor Stephen Root (Boardwalk Empire, Gravity Falls) has been revealed as the man who collects all those mysterious film reels depicting alternate versions of history, films the Nazis are mightly desperate to get their hands on.

Remember that Season 1 kicked off with a film ending up in Juliana’s (Alexa Davalos) hands in the first episode. A film she let Joe Blake (Luke Kleintank) escape with after she betrayed the Resistance to save his life in the dramatic season finale. Season 2 will pick up right where we left off, with Juliana looking to find the Man in the High Castle. And yep, she finds him.

In the clip below, the Man in the High Castle (I really hope the dude has a name) explains to Juliana that each of these films “show a reality like ours, but not ours,” and that some people can be the same from one reality to the next but most are different.

Based on Philip K. Dick’s novel, The Man in the High Castle also stars DJ Qualls, Joel de la Fuente, Brennan Brown, Bella Heathcote, Callum Keith Rennie, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, Tate Donovan and Rufus Sewell. It will return on Dec. 16 for a 10-episode second season only on Amazon. Will you be watching?
