Syfy's pistol-packin' paranormal series, Wynonna Earp, based on IDW's Wynonna Earp comic first created at Image in 1996 by seasoned writer Beau Smith, is slated for a second demon-slaying season that's currently filming in Calgary.
Starring Melanie Scrofano (Damien, RoboCop), Tim Rozon (Being Human) and Shamier Anderson (The Barrens), the hit show is enjoying a cult following and chronicles the exploits of the great-granddaughter of legendary frontier lawman Wyatt Earp as she negotiates the rugged American West back to her notorious hometown of Purgatory, where nothing lives but cattle and cowboys.
A new five-issue tie-in comic series from IDW titled Wynonna Earp: Season Zero seeks to explore Wynonna's tragic past and answer some biting questions posed in the TV series. Writer Beau Smith returns to wrangle this revealing examination of his heroine's life and has worked closely with showrunner Emily Andras (Lost Girl, Killjoys) to ensure there's a sinister synchronicity between the comics and the series. Art duties will be performed by Angel Hernandez, whose crisp work graced the pages of Star Trek: Manifest Destiny and DC's Infinite Crisis: Fight For the Multiverse.
Here's the solicitation synopsis:
Outlaws. Mavericks. Werewolves. These are The Banditos, the gang Wynonna ran with in her wildest, pre-Black Badge days. Somebody, or something is killing them off, one by one. It’s up to Wynonna to return to her roots, and find out why! Telling the never-before-seen story of Wynonna’s outlaw past—only hinted at on Syfy's Wynonna Earp TV series—finally revealed here!
"Wynonna Earp: Season Zero isn't a prequel to Season One. It DOES answer the biggest questions from the TV series that will ONLY be answered here in the comic book series," explained creator Beau Smith. "Emily Andras and I have worked on this so that TV viewers and comic book readers will make the comic book series THE place to go to if they want to know the answers, such as: The secret behind Wynonna's pre-heir days of riding with biker gang The Banditos. The Secret behind the mysterious key that she wears around her neck and the terror it unlocks. AND the very terrible thing that Wynonna was to have done in her past that in the TV series, Lucado threatened Wynonna with. Answers you'll only get in Wynonna Earp: Season Zero."
