Image of the Day: Bryan Fuller teases intriguing Star Trek: Discovery alien makeup

Star Trek: Discovery showrunner Bryan Fuller has taken to Twitter to share the first intriguing image of an alien we’ll get to see in the new series when the show premieres on CBS All Access in January.

As you can see below, the alien prosthetic looks an awful lot like the antennae worn by the Andorians (one of the races that founded the United Federation of Planets), the blue-skinned aliens first introduced in Star Trek: The Original Series. However, the appendage isn’t blue, and the pic clearly states that this is a makeup test.

Now, the question is: Was the pic taken before the antennae were painted blue, or are we looking at a new alien species for the new Star Trek series? They're a bit different from the Andorians' appendage (see pic above), but there could also be a simple explanation for this. Maybe this is just an evolution of the makeup for the species. Still. As Data likes to say: Intriguing.

What do you guys think? Are you ready to seek out new life and new civilizations and boldly go with the crew of the starship Discovery?
