It's been a long road, but the Assassin's Creed feature film is finally in production. We've been hearing about this movie since at least 2011, and we've been hearing about Michael Fassbender (X-Men: Days of Future Past) in the leading role since about 2012. Since then, the film's been through some complicated production deals, moved its release date more than once, and made some fans worry that we might never see it. It's really happening, though, and to prove it, we've got the first image of Fassbender in his assassin gear.
Check it out:
According to Yahoo!, which got the exclusive launch of the image, Fassbender is playing a character named Callum Lynch, and if that doesn't ring a bell to those of you who've faithfully played the Assassin's Creed games, it's because he's an original character who'll be part of an original story that's not a direct adaptation of any of the games. It's an adaptation of the concept and the world, but it's a brand-new plot. And as for that plot ...
"Lynch discovers he is a descendant of the secret Assassins society through unlocked genetic memories that allow him to relive the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. After gaining incredible knowledge and skills he’s poised to take on the oppressive Knights Templar in the present day."
Assassin's Creed hits theaters Dec. 21, 2016. What do you think of Fassbender's look?
