Need a change of season? Check out this beautiful new image of Mars snapped on May 12, 2016 by the Hubble Space Telescope of the Red Planet approaching opposition, one of its closest positionings to Earth in over ten years.  Released with this hypnotic new portrait is a labeled diagram highlighting some of the climatic shifts and seasonal terrain discoveries, including billowing blue cloud banks, notable craters and plains and the retreat of the planet's northern polar ice cap, typical of the Martian summer.  Mars' upcoming opposition, when Mars and the sun are on directly opposite sides of Earth, occurs on May 22, 2016.  Watch the skies!
