Hellboy's Mike Mignola is primed to unleash his latest creation, a dour paranormal private eye prowling a sunken Manhattan in the upcoming five-issue, alt-universe crime series, Joe Golem: Occult Detective. Here's a peek at never-seen variant cover art for issue #1 drawn by Mignola himself, courtesy of the fine folks at THR.
Colorist Dave Stewart will finish off the art for this debut comic coming out later this fall. The slouch-shouldered, fedora-wearing gumshoe originated in the 2013 prose novel, Joe Golem and the Drowning City, co-written by Mignola and novelist Christopher Golden. Patric Reynolds (Aliens: Fire and Stone) will tackle the interior art for the limited-run book, with main covers crafted by acclaimed oil painter, Dave Palumbo.
Here's the official synopsis from Dark Horse Comics:
Forty years after disaster left Lower Manhattan submerged in thirty feet of water, children have begun disappearing below the surface. In this new series, Joe Golem hunts the terrifying creature that has been pulling children into the depths of the canals.
Dark Horse Comics' Joe Golem: Occult Detective #1 hits comic shop shelves on November 4, 2015.
