Alex Ross has created some striking covers for Marvel's relaunch of their frontline force of Star Wars comic books, with his signature variants for Star Wars #1 and Darth Vader #1 leading the charge.  Here's a sinister new cover for the premiere of Princess Leia #1, available only through Ross's online site.  It's a somber composition with Luke emerging from the black folds of his Sith Lord father's smothering cape, viewed from a stark, exaggerated angle.  There's a sadness and simplicity to the image design, hinting at the tragic familial legacy of the Skywalker clan.  What there isn't, oddly enough, is an appearance by the title character.

Written by Mark Waid, Ross's partner on their classic Kingdom Come, with art by Terry Dodson, the start of the five-issue Princess Leia mini-series hits the shelves on March 4, 2015.

This special Alex Ross cover is available for pre-order beginning Feb. 20, 2015, at 10 a.m. EST at AlexRossStore.comalong with his other exclusive variants for Star Wars #1 and Darth Vader #1.
