We’d heard some rumblings of a Dazzler cameo of sorts in X-Men: Apocalypse, but actress Sophie Turner has let the cat out of the bag by revealing this very cool easter egg we’ll get to see in the movie.
Turner, who plays a young Jean Grey in Bryan Singer’s final X-Men movie, posted this “Flashback Friday” pic on Twitter earlier this morning with the quote: “that time Cyclops and I went shopping at the mall and found our favorite singer's album.”
A mutant and disco singer with the ability to convert sound vibrations into light and energy beams, Dazzler, real name Alison “Ali” Blair, was created by a group of Marvel Comics staff including writer/editor Tom DeFalco and illustrator John Romita Jr.. The Marvel Comics character started off as a cross-promotional, multimedia creation between Casablanca Records and Marvel in the mid-to-late 1970s before headlining her own solo series in the early 1980s, which ran for 42 issues. She even had a Marvel Graphic Novel titled Dazzler: The Movie and a four-issue limited series which co-starred the Beast and titled Beauty and the Beast.
The character later joined the X-Men and was even part of New Excalibur and S.H.I.E.L.D.!
As you can see, Cyclops (Tye Sheridan) is holding a copy of Dazzler’s album. And you know what's even cooler about this? It's that the image from that album cover, “Sounds of Light and Fury,” comes from the actual comic book cover from Dazzler #29.
Yep! Very cool! That Dazzler easter egg cameo is very similar to Nathan Fillion’s own cameo on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2. Even though both characters probably won’t appear “live” in their respective movies, they confirm the fact that these characters DO exist in their respective cinematic universes. What do you think about that Dazzler easter egg in X-Men: Apocalypse?
