The tributes to the late, beloved Carrie Fisher show no signs of slowing down.
The latest comes from Oscar Isaac, who plays Poe Dameron in the main line of Star Wars films and who posted a behind-the-scenes photo online of Fisher and Mark Hamill in costume as Leia Organa and Luke Skywalker on the set of Star Wars: Episode VIII.
Underneath the shot of the two old friends and castmates, Isaac wrote a simple and heartbreakingly elegant message: “She had no patience for pretense or small talk. She saw through things, at a different angle, with the gritty wisdom that comes from the hardest lessons. And, man, did she make me laugh. Will miss you dearly, Carrie.”
The photo was taken on the Pinewood Studios backlot in London, where director Rian Johnson completed filming on the sequel earlier this year. While Leia is said to have a larger role in Episode VIII, we can almost certainly glean from this photo that Fisher and Hamill also got to share some scenes together, which they didn't have a chance to do in 2015's The Force Awakens.
Fisher suffered a massive heart attack late last week and passed away on Tuesday at the age of 60, followed tragically by her mother, 84-year-old actress Debbie Reynolds, one day later. By all accounts, Fisher had finished her work on Episode VIII (which is out next Dec. 15) and was slated to return for Episode IX, a plan that now has to be changed.
More tributes to Fisher will no doubt continue to pour in as the world grapples with the loss of this talented, witty and bracingly honest actress, writer and raconteur.
