The character of Deadpool has always been a little on the meta side, but the latest issue featuring the Merc With a Mouth just took a hard shot at DC’s divisive 2016 blockbuster.
The new issue of Spider-Man/Deadpool, issue No. 6 in the run, includes a hilarious little exchange in which the two heroes hit up a blockbuster that bears a striking resemblance to a little move that proved a popular conversation piece this year. The issue, by Scott Aukerman and Reilly Brown, finds Spidey and Deadpool walking out of Nighthawk v. Hyperion: Yawn of Boredom, which takes a shot that many fans have also taken about the eye-roll-inducing “mommy” twist in the third act.
The duo also talk about Hollywood in general, taking shots at their own franchises. It’s all in good fun, and they even throw in an even more meta joke about the separate X-Men and MCU universes, due to the 20th Century Fox rights deal.
