Image of the Day: Man's footprints on the moon seen from orbit!

See those dark spots? They're pictures of humanity's presence on the moon captured by the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter above the Apollo 16 landing site. Wherever the astronauts walked, they stirred up lunar dust, which created the spots.

And the more often they walked in one spot, the darker that area got. The darkest area, almost black with prints, is around the lander itself (LM) and the rover (LRV).
