Incredibles 2 continues to have an incredible box office run.
The much-anticipated Pixar sequel to The Incredibles seemed primed for a great summer well before its release in mid-June, but when the box office projections started to come in, it looked like things would be particularly super, and the projections were right. Incredibles 2 scored the top opening weekend for any animated film ever, passing fellow Disney hits like Finding Dory (Disney-Pixar) and Zootopia (Walt Disney Animation Studios) on the way to building serious worldwide momentum. Now, it's climbing into the ranks of the biggest overall animated films ever released.
According to Variety, Incredibles 2 has just crossed the $1 billion mark at the worldwide box office, putting it within reach of the top spot among both Pixar releases and animated movies in general. Right now among Pixar films, the movie sits in third place, behind Finding Dory's $1.028 billion and Toy Story 3's $1.067 billion. Those numbers both seem to be in easy reach for the super sequel, and if it keeps climbing beyond that it could surpasses Frozen and its $1.29 billion haul to become the biggest animated movie of all time.
Domestically, Incredibles 2 already is the biggest animated movie ever, with North American box office returns at $572.8 million and counting. That also, by default, makes it the top-grossing Pixar movie and the top-grossing computer generated movie at the domestic box office, but that's not all. The film has cracked the top 10 list of all time domestic box office grosses, coming in at ninth place ahead of The Dark Knight and behind Star Wars: The Last Jedi. On the worldwide all-time list, the film is in the mid-30s currently, but among North American audiences it is now the third Disney release -- after Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War -- to crack the domestic top 10 in 2018 alone.
So, will Incredibles 2 become the most incredible animated money-maker ever? We'll see how much power the film has left in its box office run and keep you updated.
