We can all agree that Pixar's The Incredibles is easily one of the best superhero movies ever made, right? It's been a while since its 2004 release: Why hasn't there been a sequel? While promoting his Mission: Impossible—Ghost Protocol, director Brad Bird revealed the secret truth.

As Bird explained to MTV News, he's got plenty of ideas for an Incredibles 2—and he's been idly working on it for years—but it's just a matter of timing:

"I haven't got it all figured out yet. I've got a lot of ideas that I originally intended to be in the first movie, and you have to start throwing things out of the balloon at a certain point to get it up in the air. But a lot of the things you throw out are really cool. ... I love those characters and if I could make [a sequel] that was to Incredibles what the Toy Story sequels were to Toy Story I'd do it."

As for "the Avengers problem," and the annual glut of superhero movies, Bird jokingly said:

"What the world needs now is another superhero sequel!"
