Hollywood movies featuring little green men, flying saucers and exterrestrial visitors apparently have geographic preferences, according to an online study conducted by Decluttr, gauging each state's alien movie loves by their total search tabulations.
Here are the results of their geeky little experiment and full state-by-state map below. My home state of Oregon came in respectably with Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but kudos to Arizona for propping up The Rock in Doom!
See where your state's heart lies, and tell us if it makes you want to move to a territory with better sci-fi tastes.
We decided to take 50 of the most popular alien movies of all time and run them against Google Search Data to determine which has received the most searches in each state.
The most popular alien movie in America, according to Google, is last year’s Arrival. It came out on top in Alaska, Colorado, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Washington and Wyoming. In second place is another recent movie: Star Trek Beyond. The third movie in the new series was searched for most in Alabama, Maine, North Carolina, Virginia and Wisconsin. The original Alien is joint third with four states: Georgia, Illinois, Michigan and New York. Joining it in third is 2015’s surprise hit 10 Cloverfield Lane, which topped searches in Idaho, Kansas, New Hampshire and West Virginia.
