It started out as a jumping-off point to have all of DC's heroes fight one another, but the plot of the video game Injustice has become so much more. Well, good news: the adventure isn't over.

DC Comics launched its original Injustice: Gods Among Us comic series to accompany the first chapter in the acclaimed fighting game back in 2013, but after a while the tie-in series started to surpass the video game that inspired it. Now, it's officially set to continue.

Writer Tom Taylor, who crafted an epic, alt-universe tale where Superman goes bad and Batman leads the resistance to retake control of the world, will be back for this extended run. Artist Bruno Redondo, who worked on the first Injustice series, is also coming back.

Taylor's new comic finds Batman trying to put the pieces back together after Superman’s tyrannical regime. The original Injustice comic eventually ran far beyond the story of the video game, and it stands to reason Injustice 2 could do the same.

With Injustice 2 set to hit shelves in May, DC will be dropping an Injustice 2 digital comic to serve as a prequel at the same time, filling in the gaps between the first game and the second.

For fans looking for something a bit weirder and wilder than what Rebirth has to offer, this could certainly do the trick. Check out a first look at the new run below and let us know what you think:
