The CW has been on a roll this week by releasing a hype trailer for the whole of its Arrowverse series, an extended trailer for the “Legion of Super-Heroes” episode of Supergirl, and a tense clip from the network's new superhero TV show, Black Lightning. Now it’s Arrow and The Flash’s turn to get their own midseason trailers.
With Clifford DeVoe (Neil Sandilands) having successfully framed Barry (Grant Gustin) for his “murder,” the speedy superhero series returns with “The Trial of The Flash.” The new installment will put the Scarlet Speedster on trial, where Barry will be prosecuted by Human Target’s Mark Valley, who is joining the Arrowverse as DC Comics character Anton Slater.
The official synopsis for the episode indicates that Iris (Candice Patton) and Joe (Jesse L. Martin) “must decide how far they are willing to go to keep Barry out of prison.” In the case of Joe, it may be planting fake evidence in DeVoe’s house with the help of Ralph Dibny (Hartley Sawyer). As for Iris, could it be that she’s about to reveal that Barry is the Flash?
After all, Joe's girlfriend and Central City district attorney Cecille (Danielle Nicolet) advises Barry to reveal his identity as the Flash to save him from going to prison, something he’s firmly against. The trailer does make it look like that’s what Iris is about to do, although that may not be what is really happening here. Did Team Flash come up with a plan?
Following the midseason finale of Arrow, the show is back from its winter hiatus as Team Arrow is fractured and Oliver (Stephen Amell) prepares to face off against the dastardly Cayden James (Michael Emmerson) and his villainous team made up of Black Siren (Katie Cassidy), Ricardo Diaz (Kirk Acevedo), Anatoly (David Nykl), and Vigilante (Johann Urb).
Despite Curtis (Echo Kellum), Rene (Rick Gonzalez), and Dinah (Juliana Harkavy) having left Team Arrow and ready to start their own team, Oliver is confident that he, Diggle (David Ramsey) and Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) can take on James and his posse while Diggle advocates for getting Team Arrow back in order to face off against the mighty group of supervillains.
The Flash returns Jan. 16, while Arrow comes back on Jan. 18 on The CW.
