Season 1 of Iron Fist on Netflix came under fire for some pretty lackluster fighting sequences and choreography. As if recognizing this fact, the streaming service has released a featurette that goes behind the scenes of Season 2's fight scenes.
Clayton Barber handled the stunts for the upcoming season, and hiring him was a very good idea, as his credits include such projects as John Wick: Chapter 2, Creed, Jessica Jones, and even Black Panther. With a heavy fight background, he wanted to change things up for the second outing of Iron Fist. According to Barber, the fight scenes were akin to punk rock songs, meaning that a lot of emphasis was placed on rhythm and tempo.
"The fighting style on this season of Iron Fist is just wicked," says Finn Jones, who plays Danny Rand, aka the Immortal Iron Fist. "There's an edge to the choreography, there's just a kind of relentless, visceral energy to it ... Clayton wants to see the real actors doing the stunts."
"It's so much fun and just badass," adds Jessica Henwick, who portrays Danny's girlfriend and fighting partner Colleen Wing. "It's quite a different style from Season 1."
Check out the featurette below:
"The fighting has evolved and it has changed," states Barber. "It's gotten bigger and better ... I just said that we have to do it over and over until you stop thinking about it and you just do it."
Season 2 of Marvel's Iron Fist drops on Netflix Friday, Sept. 7.
"Every episode has a standout sequence," Jones reveals in the featurette. "I just really hope that the audience can appreciate the work we've put into it and can enjoy the fights for what they are, which is f---ing awesome."
