A bunch of new images from an all-new upcoming episode of Gotham have emerged, revealing that Gotham City may yet see the rise of a new Joker.

Gotham went down the "potential Joker" road before with Jerome (Cameron Monaghan), who emerged as a clear fan favorite amongst viewers until he was killed off by Theo Galavan (James Frain) in the Season 2 episode "Rise of the Villains: The Last Laugh." Is the show setting the stage again for a similar move? This time with a potential female Joker?

Released by Fox, the fresh new stills are from the March 14 episode titled “This Ball of Mud and Meanness.” They show actress Lori Petty, who is set to guest-star as Jeri, in full "Joker" makeup that's a bit reminiscent of Heath Ledger’s look as the Clown Prince of Crime in The Dark Knight, don't you think?

In the new pics, you can also see that Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) is still under the, erm, tender love and care of Hugo Strange (BD Wong) at Arkham. Now, would you look at that?

Season 2 of Gotham promises that “the stakes are higher than ever as Gotham explores the origin stories of some of the most ambitious and depraved Super Villains, including The Riddler, The Joker and Mr. Freeze, and Bruce Wayne uncovers more secrets from his father’s past.”

Here’s the official synopsis for “This Ball of Mud and Meanness.”

Michael Bowen (“Breaking Bad”) and Lori Petty (“Orange Is The New Black”) Guest-Star

Alfred and Selina help Bruce on his quest to find his parents’ killer, Matches Malone (guest star Michael Bowen). Meanwhile, Gordon follows up with Edward Nygma on Kristen Kringle’s whereabouts and Hugo Strange (guest star BD Wong) continues his treatment to reduce Penguin’s aggression in the all-new “Wrath of the Villains: This Ball of Mud and Meanness” episode of GOTHAM airing Monday, March 14 (8:00-9:01 PM ET/PT) on FOX.

Have a look at the gallery below, and let us know what you think. Gotham airs Monday nights on Fox.
