Could one of Marvel's fallen be returning in a big, bad way? SPOILERS AHEAD!

The last major event at Marvel was 2012's Avengers vs. X-Men, and it brought many big changes to the Marvel Universe, including the tragic death of Charles Xavier, who fell at the hands of Cyclops after Cyclops had been driven mad by the Phoenix Force. These days, Cyclops is trying to atone by returning to fight alongside his fellow mutants, but what about Xavier? Will we ever really see him again?

After Avengers vs. X-Men Marvel launched Marvel NOW!, a major rebranding that brought big shifts in talent and characters. The flagship book of Marvel NOW!, Uncanny Avengers, is setting in motion big events to come, and in today's Uncanny Avengers #4 we get several major revelations, including this one (again, MAJOR SPOILERS BELOW!):

Yup, that's a de-brained Professor X in the foreground, and behind him is the villain Onslaught. First introduced in 1996, Onslaught was actually created from the dual consciousnesses of Xavier and Magneto, and he's definitely a force to be reckoned with. But is this the future for the Marvel Universe, or just some version of the future? Readers of Uncanny Avengers #4 will know that this panel is set three months after the events of the rest of the comic, and a lot could happen between now and then. Can this be prevented? And if it can't, can Xavier somehow be redeemed and restored to the Marvel Universe? We'll have to read on to find out.
