Is a True Blood star the frontrunner to become the new Superman?

A True Blood star could very well be the frontrunner for the role of a lifetime—namely that of the Man of Steel himself—in Zack Snyder's upcoming film Superman: Man of Steel. If you're guessing Alexander Skarsgard, you're wrong. But if you're guessing Joe Manganiello, yup, you're right.

Joe Manganiello, the actor who made many a woman's heart (including that of Sookie Stackhouse) beat faster during True Blood's third season as the hunky werewolf Alcide Herveaux, may likely become the next Superman in director's Zack Snyder's reboot of the franchise. Though it's not the first time Manganiello has been rumored for the role, seems he's just become first on the list.

The news come from Geoff Boucher of The Los Angeles Time Hero Complex via his twitter account.

At 6' 5", Manganiello certainly looks the part: just give him a pair of baby-blue eye contacts, slap on the tights and cape, put on the boots and there you go.

Having starred as Flash Thompson in 2003's Spider-Man 3, the actor would certainly be no stranger to playing a comic-book character, even if it was a much, MUCH smaller part. However, IF Joe Manganiello does become the next Clark Kent / Kal-El, the role would definitely be his biggest to date.

So—do we start taking bets?

What do you think? Do you see Joe Manganiello as the next Superman?
