Matt Frewer returns to Eureka as Jim Taggart in Sept. 11's episode, "Have an Ice Day." Taggart will be in charge of an arctic ice core project that brings a new ice age to Eureka. The episode is directed by Joe Morton.

In previous appearances, Taggart connected romantically with Deputy Jo Lupo (Erica Cerra). This time, Taggart's attention is focused on work, said Frewer. He won't be rekindling his romance this season.

"I wouldn't be giving anything away by saying that my character and Deputy Jo Lupo are no longer an item," Frewer said in a group interview on Aug. 5 in Pasadena, Calif., where he was promoting the Syfy miniseries Alice. "Who knows? We may revisit that. Sex has got to rear its ugly head again, for God's sake. It was fun to do, and hopefully we do it again."

Frewer remained open to returning for another episode in the fourth season. Eureka producers need only ask. "We'll find out when we're going to shoot [season four]," Frewer said. "Probably it'll be February or March. I'd love to do more. It's great fun to do."

At least Euerka fans can know that Taggart is still out there working on special projects like the arctic ice core. "It was the comeback for the character," Frewer said of the upcoming episode.

Eureka airs Fridays at 9 p.m. on Syfy.
