Is this the first official image from X-Men: First Class?

It wouldn't surprise me if—confronted with the barrage of new images from superhero movies like Spider-Man and Captain America: The First Avenger—Fox wanted to toss out a shot from their Matthew Vaughan-directed X-extension. But would this really be it?

Probably not. This image—which ostensibly gives us our first looks at James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, January Jones, et al. in costume—has been bouncing all over the Internet today. And, theoretically, it wouldn't be bad—except for the fact that it looks tres photoshoppy: The light sources don't jibe, and the heads look a wee bit off.

Plus, if you're going to come out of the gate with a first image, wouldn't it show off the characters a bit more, rather than hide everything except January Jones' boobs in shadow?

We could be wrong, and this could be the real deal ... but we'll bet our near-mint edition of The Incredible Hulk #181 that it isn't.*

* We're not actually going to bet this.
